Citizens in Delhi woke up to a pleasant summer morning as the temperature in the national capital dropped to a low of 14.1 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The relative humidity in Delhi at 8:30 am was 49 per cent.

The federal weather office forecast clear skies for the day, which may turn partly cloudy towards the afternoon or evening. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the 'moderate' (159) category around 8 am.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

This comes at a time when India is forecast to witness above normal temperatures along with El Nino risks that can hurt the country's key agriculture sector. India, and particularly the norther region, saw the average number of heat wave days rising to the highest in a decade in 2022. As per an India Meteorological Department (IMD) report, 2022 was the fifth warmest year since 1901, with temperatures 0.51 degree Celsius above the 1981-2010 average.
