Delhi hears loud thunders
Residents of the National Capital were hit with more unexpected weather, as the states experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms. This follows similar weather conditions on Wednesday evening it started raining with strong winds. While the chances of being struck by thunder is less than 1 in a million, people do die due to it mostly when they are outside. Here is what to do if you are stuck outside during thunderstorms today, and beyond.

Take shelter
If you hear thunders and see lightning, take shelter at a protective place immediately. One mistake people tend to make is wait too long before finding a shelter. If you can identify lightning, chances are there that it is near you. So, look for a shed, shop or a covered building and stand under it.
3/6
Stay away from open spaces
Lightning strucks mostly in open spaces. Stay away from open spaces such as golf courses, parks, playgrounds, ponds, lakes, swimming pools, and beaches.

Don't stand under a tree
Avoid standing under a lone tree or light posts while there is lightning and thunderstorm. Lone trees and light posts attract lightning and provide no protection, making them more dangerous to be around. Instead, look for a thick patch of small trees.
5/6
Move low
If you are on a hill or somewhere where the elevation is high, come down. Lightning strikes the most on higher elevations. Coming down to a lower elevation will reduce your chances of getting affected.

Get inside a car
If you can't find a protective structure, get in a car with a metal roof and sides. This will ensure that when lightning strikes, the metal doors and roof will conduct the electricity around you, not through you. Roll up the windows and close the doors to avoid mishaps.
