In a video message posted on the Delhi Police's official Instagram account, the officer said a large number of women personnel had been deployed to manage demonstrations and were specifically tasked with dealing with women protesters.
The officer said police had clear instructions that women personnel should handle women protesters. She also said videos circulating online showed male police personnel avoiding physical contact with women demonstrators, but did not adequately reflect the difficulties faced by women officers on duty.
According to the officer, some women police personnel had allegedly been dragged into crowds by male protesters, subjected to misbehaviour and assault, and had their clothes and badges torn while attempting to maintain law and order.

She also alleged that women protesters had faced inappropriate behaviour from male protesters, saying the issue of women's safety at protest sites was not restricted to police personnel.
The officer said women personnel were continuing to perform their duties despite the difficulties at the protest locations. She stressed that women in uniform were entitled to the same dignity and respect as other women and should not be subjected to assault or humiliation.
Her remarks come amid ongoing protests in the New Delhi district, including demonstrations involving the Cockroach Janta Party, student organisations and Congress-led opposition parties near Parliament. Delhi Police has deployed personnel in large numbers to manage the gatherings and prevent any escalation.
The officer said the deployment of women personnel was intended to facilitate the handling of women protesters and maintain law and order at the sites.
She said the conduct faced by women officers during such deployments also needed attention, particularly when they were performing their assigned duties in crowded protest situations.
