Delhi: Police issues traffic advisory for Chhath Puja

The advisory, issued on Sunday, is for diverting vehicles in and around Wazirabad and near ITO to alternative routes in view of celebrations in these areas.

The Chhath Puja traffic advisory for Delhi is out.

The festival is being celebrated at various Yamuna ghats on October 30-31 from 4 pm to 10 pm and 4 am to 8 am, as per a tweet by the Delhi Police.

The advisory, issued on Sunday, is for diverting vehicles in and around Wazirabad and near ITO to alternative routes in view of celebrations in these areas.


Thousands of devotees thronged ghats of the Yamuna and makeshift ponds on Sunday.

"Commuters are advised to follow the following routes to reach their destination: 1. Use the Signature bridge instead of Old Wazirabad bridge. 2. Use Geeta colony flyover and Yamuna Pusta road towards Akshardham temple from Laxmi Nagar red light," the advisory reads.

The Chhath puja timing falls on the sixth day after Diwali. Dedicated to the Sun God, the festival is also called "Surya Sashthi".

Devotees worship the setting sun and the rising sun on Puja day. During the puja, fasting women offer "arghya" to the Sun god in knee-deep water.

Chhath is one of the most popular festivals in eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
