Delhi Police cancels routine leave amid law and order concerns over CJP protests

Delhi Police has cancelled all routine leave for its personnel with immediate effect, citing the prevailing law and order situation in the national capital as protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) continue over examination reforms and the NEET paper leak issue.

An order issued by the Police Headquarters on Thursday, and circulated to all district Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) police and other senior officers, directed that no routine leave would be granted until further orders.

According to the communication, all casual leave, earned leave and other routine leave have been suspended, with only genuine emergency leave to be considered after due verification and approval by the competent authority.

"In view of the prevailing law and order situation, no routine leaves, i.e., casual, earned leaves, etc., would be granted to the police personnel, including GOs, with immediate effect and until further orders.

"Leaves shall be sanctioned only in genuine emergency cases after duly verified and approved by the sanctioning authority. All DCPs are requested to ensure meticulous compliance," the order said.

The order also barred police personnel from attending any training programme or course without prior approval from the Commissioner of Police.

"No police personnel, including GOs, will attend/participate in any course without the approval of the commissioner of police until further orders," it added.

The move comes as Delhi remains on heightened alert following protests spearheaded by the CJP, which has been demanding reforms in the examination system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak, among other issues.

On July 20, thousands of CJP supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar for a 'Sansad Chalo' march despite heavy security deployment on the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session. Police used lathis and tear gas after protesters attempted to march towards Parliament, leading to clashes in which several protesters and police personnel were injured.
