Delhi, Noida, Gurugram weather: Cold wave, dense fog persist across Delhi-NCR, alerts IMD

Cold wave conditions continued to prevail over the national capital region for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, accompanied by dense fog during early morning hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The weather agency said cold wave conditions are likely to persist over the next day, with minimum temperatures remaining appreciably below normal across Delhi and adjoining areas. Fog is expected to continue during night and morning hours, while daytime conditions are likely to remain mainly clear.

Delhi weather update

According to IMD data, Delhi woke up to biting cold and very poor air quality, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 357 at 7 am, placing it in the ‘very poor’ category, according to Central Pollution Control Board data, while early morning temperatures remained around 3–4°C amid dense fog and cold wave conditions.


A day earlier, Delhi woke up to a chilly morning, with temperatures dropping to around 4 degrees Celsius. Cold wave conditions, accompanied by dense fog in several parts of the city, continued to disrupt normal life, affecting visibility and adding to travel-related challenges.

Delhi had last recorded a lower minimum temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius on January 16, 2023. Dense fog reduced visibility during early morning hours, and cold wave conditions are expected to continue over the national capital.

Meanwhile, rehearsals for the 77th Republic Day parade are currently underway at Kartavya Path.



Noida weather update

In Noida and parts of western Uttar Pradesh, dense fog was reported during morning hours, with cold wave conditions persisting, the IMD said. Minimum temperatures in the region hovered around 4 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures remained near 20 degrees Celsius. The weather department said night temperatures are expected to stay below normal, and fog is likely to continue during late night and morning hours over the next day.

Gurugram weather update

Gurugram and adjoining areas of Haryana also experienced cold wave conditions, with the IMD reporting minimum temperatures dipping to around 4 degrees Celsius at several locations. Day temperatures remained subdued, ranging between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Dense fog was observed at isolated places during early morning hours, and similar conditions are likely to persist, the IMD said.
