The Supreme Court has shifted the suo motu case on the Delhi-NCR stray dog issue to a three-judge bench. The matter will now be heard Thursday by a bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjaria.

On August 11, a two-judge bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan had directed relocation of stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to dog shelters.

That bench had taken suo motu cognizance of the matter on July 28 based on a Times of India report titled “In a city hounded by strays, kids pay price.”

According to LiveLaw, the issue was mentioned twice today before Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, once in the morning and again in the evening.

The CJI said he would look into it.
