Light showers in Delhi NCR bring relief from increasing air pollution

Bringing relief to residents in Delhi-NCR from the increasing air pollution, several parts of the national capital received light showers on the Thursday and Friday intervening night.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai as quoted by PTI said, "Delhi pollution level has improved a bit (due to overnight rains). The rainfall has helped in improving the air quality which was in 'severe' category since last several days. We hope that this will improve further."

Visuals surfacing have shown moderate rainfall.



The national capital's rainfall coincides with the Delhi government's continuous attempts to introduce the concept of "artificial rain" in an attempt to reduce the level of pollution in the area.

As per the officials, the Delhi government on Thursday had decided to carry out 'artificial rain' to combat the air pollution in the city.

Further, Rai said that ministers have been fielded to ensure thorough implementation of anti-pollution measures. Post this, the ministers were seen inspecting different areas and borders connecting Delhi to neighbouring states, as part of inspection process.

After the air quality of the national capital plummeted to 'severe plus' category, the government here implemented the Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
