AAP protest today: Delhi Metro shuts key stations, traffic police announces route restrictions and towing warning

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for a 'gherao' at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence on Tuesday to protest against the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case. Delhi Police have heightened security at PM Modi's residence and denied permission for the AAP's protest, news agency ANI reported. The Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi Metro or DMRC have announced advisories for commuters.

Delhi Metro Advisory

Delhi Metro or DMRC in an update said entry and exit at Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station, Gate no 3 of Patel Chowk Metro Station, and Gate no 5 of Central Secretariat Metro station will be closed for security reasons.

Delhi Traffic Advisory

Delhi Traffic Police has announced traffic restrictions and diversions in view of the AAP protests.

In order to ensure efficient traffic management in the New Delhi area, the following measures will be implemented:

• No vehicles will be permitted to stop or park along Tughlak Road, Safdarjung Road, and Kemal Ataturk Marg.
• General public entry will be prohibited.
• Vehicles found parked on the specified roads will be towed and subjected to penalties for improper parking and failure to comply with lawful directives. Towed vehicles will be relocated to the Traffic Pit at Kali Bari Marg. If necessary, diversion points will be established at:
• Aurobindo Chowk and Tughlak Road
• Samrat Hotel Roundabout
• Gymkhana Post Office Roundabout
• Teen Murti Haifa Roundabout
• Niti Marg Roundabout
• Kautilya Marg Roundabout

Separately, Delhi Traffic Police said due to ongoing construction work by DMRC along the Vikaspuri to Rohini carriageway on Outer Ring Road, the Slip/Service Road leading to New Rohtak Road in Nangloi, at Peeragarhi Chowk on Outer Ring Road, will be closed for a duration of 06 months starting from 17.03.2024. Consequently, traffic originating from Vikaspuri and bound for Nangloi and Punjabi Bagh areas will be redirected from the Bhera Enclave roundabout on Outer Ring Road using the following routes/points:

For commuters traveling from Vikaspuri towards Udyog Nagar Metro and Nangloi on New Rohtak Road:

• From Bhera Enclave Roundabout, turn left onto Sai Baba Mandir Road up to Sai Ram Mandir, then make a right turn onto Sant Durbalnath Marg (Old PVC Market) up to Udyog Nagar Metro Station, then turn left onto New Rohtak Road. OR
• After passing the Bhera Enclave Roundabout, turn left onto Ch. Prem Sukh Marg up to Peeragarhi Marg, then make a right turn onto Laxmi Narain Bansal Marg or Sant Durbalnath Marg up to Rohtak Road.

For commuters traveling from Vikaspuri towards Punjabi Bagh:

• Proceed straight on the Peeragarhi Flyover, then after crossing the flyover, make a U-turn under the Mangolpuri Flyover. Take a left turn from Peeragarhi Chowk towards the Punjabi Bagh side. OR
• From the Bhera Roundabout, take a right turn towards Jawalaheri Market, then take a left turn onto Baba Ramdev Marg up to New Rohtak Road, and finally, make a right turn towards Punjabi Bagh.

INDIA BLOC rally on March 31

INDIA bloc is organizing a rally on March 31 to protest against Kejriwal's arrest by the ED. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case linked to money laundering. He was remanded to ED custody until March 28.

The case involves alleged irregularities and money laundering in the implementation of the Delhi excise policy in 2022, which was subsequently revoked. Two senior AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are in judicial custody in connection with the excise policy case. Sisodia, the former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, was arrested by the CBI on February 26, 2023, while Sanjay Singh, a Rajya Sabha member, was arrested by the ED on October 5 of the previous year.
