Delhi Metro: Portion of elevated Gokalpuri station collapses; one dead, many injured

Alongside the fatality, four individuals sustained injuries in the incident and are currently receiving medical attention at GTB Hospital in Dilshad Garden. The collapse also resulted in damage to two motorcycles and two scooters.
The unfortunate event occurred around 11 am when a portion of the boundary wall on the eastern side of the elevated platform, along with part of a slab, collapsed onto the road below, as reported by a police officer. The aftermath left a section of the slab still hanging precariously.
The Pink Line metro route extends between Majlis Park and Shiv Vihar metro stations. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast Delhi), Joy Tirkey, highlighted the swift response of the Gokulpuri Police Station personnel, who, along with local residents and fire department officials, promptly assisted in rescuing the victims from the debris and transporting them to GTB Hospital.
Tirkey mentioned that approximately 40-50 meters of the wall, along with the slab, collapsed during the incident. Video footage captured by bystanders and shared on social media depicted law enforcement officers clearing the rubble from the road, with a part of the structure still hanging precariously.
The affected area on the road has been cordoned off until the hanging portion of the slab is removed. Authorities have temporarily closed the metro station, pending an inspection by a team of experts before repair work can commence. Additionally, a case will be registered under the relevant sections of the law.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 1-5 lakh to the injured.
