The increase ranges between Rs 1 and Rs 4 depending on the distance travelled. On the Airport Express Line, the hike goes up to Rs 5, said the DMRC in its official memo.
“A nominal fare increase has been implemented across the network, including the Airport Express Line, to meet rising operational and maintenance costs," DMRC said in an announcement on social media platform X on Monday.
Passengers using smart cards will continue to get a 10% discount on every journey, with an additional 10% discount during off-peak hours — before 8 am, between 12 pm and 5 pm, and after 9 pm, reported PTI.
Delhi Metro Fare Hike: Revised price structure

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 – 2 km | ₹10 | ₹11 | ₹10 | ₹11 |
| 2 – 5 km | ₹20 | ₹21 | ₹10 | ₹11 |
| 5 – 12 km | ₹30 | ₹32 | ₹20 | ₹21 |

| 21 – 32 km | ₹50 | ₹54 | ₹40 | ₹43 |
| Above 32 km | ₹60 | ₹64 | ₹50 | ₹54 |
The hike is the first in nearly eight years and was recommended by the 4th Fare Fixation Committee before being cleared by the DMRC Board of Directors. Officials told PTI that the increase was unavoidable due to financial pressures from COVID-era revenue losses, repayment commitments to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the need for midlife refurbishment of trains, upkeep of infrastructure, and staff salaries.
Despite the revision, DMRC maintained that its fares remain among the lowest globally compared to other metro systems of similar scale. The fare hike comes just weeks after the Delhi Metro registered its highest-ever single-day ridership on August 8, 2025, with 81,87,674 passenger journeys recorded across all lines. The record surge was linked to the Raksha Bandhan festival rush, when travel demand spiked across the city.
To accommodate the additional footfall, DMRC ran 92 extra train trips on August 8 and planned 455 additional services for August 9, boosting frequency and easing crowding at major interchange stations. Officials said similar operational measures would continue to be deployed during festivals and special events to ensure commuter convenience.
With over six million daily riders on average, the Delhi Metro remains the backbone of urban mobility in the National Capital Region (NCR). The latest fare adjustment, DMRC noted, will support maintenance and operational efficiency while the network continues to expand and manage record-breaking passenger volumes.
