The RRTS, India’s first semi-high-speed urban transit system, connects the National Capital Region (NCR) with Meerut. With the addition of this section, the total operational length will increase to 55 kilometers, while the full 82-kilometer corridor is expected to be completed by June.

Delhi Meerut Rapid Rail new stretch
This 13-kilometer section has two major stations: Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar. The Anand Vihar station integrates with Delhi Metro’s Blue and Pink lines and connects to Indian Railways and inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs). Features like escalators, lifts, and dedicated entry points ensure easy access for commuters.At New Ashok Nagar, a footbridge links the metro and rapid rail stations. Additional planned footbridges will connect nearby areas, including Chilla Village and Mayur Vihar Extension. According to an NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) official, “Two more footbridges will come up—one connecting Chilla village and Mayur Vihar Extension, and the other near the ancient Shiv Temple. All these will provide easy access to residents of New Ashok Nagar.”

Underground connectivity and trial runs
The new section includes a 6-kilometer underground stretch starting at Vaishali and emerging near New Ashok Nagar. Anand Vihar is the only underground station in this segment. Future expansions will add three underground stations in Meerut.Trial runs for this segment began in October, confirming its readiness for operations. This stretch complements the existing Sahibabad-Meerut South service, which spans 42 kilometers.
