Delhi’s Master Plan 2047 envisages a greener, futuristic transport network featuring air taxis, air pods, waterways, expanded Metro and high-speed rail, alongside AI-driven traffic management and stronger regional connectivity.

New Delhi: Delhi's latest master plan envisions air taxis and air pods as modes of transport in a move towards greener mobility.

The Master Plan Delhi (MPD) 2047, notified on Thursday, also proposes inland waterways on the Yamuna, Sahibi River, also known as the Najafgarh drain, and other canals.

The plan proposes redevelopment of key railway stations for seamless transfers between railway stations, ISBTs, bus terminals, Metro, and RRTS stations, and development of new railway stations to cater to increased traffic.

Delhi is currently connected to the rest of the country through five major railway stations: New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Sarai Rohilla.

The plan envisages the use of clean fuels, technologically advanced transit systems and artificial intelligence for traffic and parking management.

It also seeks to encourage walking and cycling and improve access to newly urbanised areas, reduce congestion and revive underutilised transport assets.

The plan aims to improve the share of public transport and intermediate public transport in motorised trips, reducing the share of private modes.

Bus-route rationalisation, intelligent transport systems, unified ticketing and command-and-control centres for better traffic management are its part.

The plan seeks to link Indira Gandhi International Airport and the Noida International Airport at Jewar through road, rail and other "futuristic" modes.

Seven high-speed rail corridors have been proposed to enhance inter-state connectivity, reduce travel time and help reduce pollution. Three of them will connect Delhi with Varanasi, Ahmedabad and Amritsar/Chandigarh.

The plan lists eight Regional Rapid Transit System corridors connecting, among other destinations, Delhi and Gurugram-SNB-Bawal-Behror, Panipat-Karnal, Faridabad-Ballabgarh-Palwal, Bahadurgarh-Rohtak and Shahdara-Baraut, as well as Ghaziabad-Hapur and Ghaziabad-Khurja.

The plan envisions future interstate bus terminals located near the entry points of the city.

Four transport links have also been proposed to improve high-speed connectivity with Gurugram, Greater Noida, Jewar airport and the AIIMS campus in Jhajjar.

These roadways include the northern extension of UER-I from NH-1 to the Loni-Baghpat Expressway in Ghaziabad, the southern extension of UER-II from NH-8 in Dwarka to the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Jewar Airport, a Dwarka Sector 21-HUDA City Centre link in Gurugram, and a Dwarka-AIIMS Jhajjar link.
