Women eligible for the Delhi government's Lakshmi Yojana will start receiving pension letters from August 27, with the monthly financial assistance set to be credited directly to their bank accounts from September 1, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday.

The government will organise an event at Talkatora Stadium on August 27 to distribute the pension letters to beneficiaries. Gupta has also directed district committees to speed up the verification of applications so that eligible women can receive the benefits without delay.

The government said the Lakshmi Yojana website will soon have an option for applicants to correct errors in their applications, allowing them to make necessary changes without having to go through a fresh application process.

The scheme, one of the BJP government's key welfare promises ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, provides Rs 2,500 a month to eligible women. The Delhi Cabinet approved the scheme in July and allocated Rs 5,110 crore for 2026-27. The government expects the scheme to cover more than 17 lakh women in the capital.

The scheme is aimed at women in Delhi within the prescribed age and income limits. The guidelines reported by ET provide for women aged 21 to 60 years with annual family income of up to Rs 2.5 lakh. The scheme is initially planned for three years, after which its continuation will be reviewed.

Applicants are also required to establish their Delhi residency. Earlier guidelines required a self-declaration confirming at least 10 years of residence in Delhi, along with a declaration regarding criminal antecedents.

Application process

The online registration portal was opened on August 1. Applicants have been required to submit documents including Aadhaar and PAN cards, an income certificate and details of an Aadhaar-linked single-holder bank account. The application process also includes an endorsement letter from the applicant's local MLA or MP among the required documents.

The government has now directed district-level committees to speed up verification of applications. It has also said that an option will soon be added to the scheme's website to allow applicants to correct errors in their forms.
