Delhi Lakshmi Yojana: 4,000 women to receive sanction letters on Wednesday, aid from Sept 1

New Delhi: Around 4,000 women will receive sanction letters under the Delhi government's Lakshmi Yojana at an event at Talkatora Stadium on Wednesday, with the monthly financial assistance under the scheme set to be credited to beneficiaries from September 1, officials said.

The Chief Minister's Office said on X that the scheme will be formally launched on August 26, with eligible women receiving their sanction letters.

According to the CMO, 9.13 lakh beneficiaries have registered on the portal, of whom 6.52 lakh have submitted completed applications.

The Lakshmi Yojana was one of the main poll promise of the BJP government of 2025 Delhi election.

From September 1, Rs 2,500 will be transferred every month directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. The government had also finalised the manner in which the assistance can be disbursed. Beneficiaries can choose to receive Rs 1,000 through a central bank digital currency and invest Rs 1,500 in a fixed or recurring deposit, or put the entire Rs 2,500 into the deposit.

The applicants will also get an opportunity to correct or complete missing information. A correction facility will soon be made available on the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana portal, according to the CMO.

The scheme provides monthly assistance to eligible women aged between 21 and 60 years. Women from households with more than three children and those with annual household electricity consumption exceeding 2,400 units are among those excluded.

The Delhi government launched the application portal for the scheme on August 1.

The government had estimated a few months ago that more than 17 lakh women would benefit from the scheme, for which Rs 5,110 crore was earmarked in the 2026-27 budget. It is not immediately clear whether the earlier estimate will hold after the latest eligibility criteria and other restrictions.

According to a cabinet note approved in July, women already receiving financial assistance or pensions under another government scheme, income-tax payers, GST return filers and government employees will also be ineligible. Women from families having members employed by the Centre, state governments, public sector undertakings or other government organisations will also be excluded.

Families owning a four-wheeler will not be eligible, while women with a criminal record will also be excluded under the scheme.
