Delhi-Kathmandu bus service suspended for two days after Nepal flash floods

The Delhi government has temporarily suspended the Indo-Nepal Maitri Bus Sewa for two days as a precautionary measure following massive flash floods in Nepal that have disrupted road connectivity on the Delhi-Kathmandu route.

Road transportation on the National Highway along the Delhi-Kathmandu route in Nepal has been completely shut, officials said on Thursday.

"In view of the above, as a preventive measure, the trips scheduled for DTC buses on August 28 Delhi to Kathmandu and Kathmandu to Delhi and likewise, trip schedule for Nepali bus on August 29 have been held-up due to massive Flash Flood in Nepal," the Delhi Transport Corporation said in an order.


The suspension covers Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) services scheduled to operate between Delhi and Kathmandu on August 28, as well as the corresponding Nepali bus service scheduled for August 29.

The Delhi government introduced the Delhi-Kathmandu-Delhi international bus service in 2014. The service operates through Uttar Pradesh, with buses leaving Delhi at 10 am for Kathmandu and crossing into Nepal through the Sonauli check-post near Gorakhpur.

The temporary suspension comes as rescue and relief operations continue in Nepal following the massive flash floods that have caused widespread destruction and disrupted road links across the country.
