IMD issues fog alert for north India; over 130 flights delayed at Delhi airport
Amid warning of fog in many parts of north India, the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport airport in an advisory said that low visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi airport. It requested passengers to contact the airline concerned for updated information.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of "dense to very dense fog at many places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, at a few places over Uttar Pradesh and dense fog at isolated places over northern parts of Rajasthan."

Dense fog on Wednesday morning in Delhi led to disruption in flight and train services. The national capital's air quality index continued to remain in the "very poor" category. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Thursday are likely to settle around 21 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Meanwhile, the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 350 at 9:40 pm on Wednesday. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

Air India has announced its FogCare initiative, allowing passengers traveling to and from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport to reschedule or cancel bookings without additional charges in case of potential flight disruptions due to dense fog. The initiative aims to minimize inconvenience and maintain network schedule integrity during the winter season, especially when flight operations are impacted by fog, causing delays and diversions.

In recent days, flight operations have been impacted at the Delhi airport due to dense fog, with many flights getting delayed and some getting diverted to nearby airports. "The FogCare initiative is a sincere effort to minimise inconvenience to guests whose flights are likely to get affected by fog. It will also help maintain network schedule integrity," said Rajesh Dogra, Chief Customer Experience Officer of Air India.

Passengers of these flights will be kept updated with flight-specific advisories and offered easy options in advance to ease their travel experience, it added.
