Delhi High Court pulls up Twitter for not complying with new IT rules

Delhi High Court has pulled up Twitter for not complying with India's new IT rules and has asked the social media company to come up with the status of compliance by next date.

The court observed that Twitter is in defiance of the law by not appointing a grievance redressal officer under the new IT rules.

"How long does your (Twitter's) process take? If Twitter thinks it can take as long as it wants in our country, I'll not allow that," ANI quoted Justice Rekha Palli as saying.


Earlier, the social networking platform lost its immunity under the IT Act, 2000, the government told the Delhi High Court on Monday.

This was because of its failure to comply with the revised IT Intermediary Guidelines that came into effect on May 26, the ministry of electronics and IT (MeitY) said in an affidavit filed before the court.
