Chandra was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in October 2021 as part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the real estate group and its promoters.
He was granted an eight-week interim medical bail on July 28, 2022 by the High Court which was extended from time to time.
Earlier in March 2024, the Supreme Court had stayed the Delhi High Court’s order that had asked realty firm’s founder Chandra to surrender before the jail superintendent immediately.
Senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi and counsel Ranjeeta Rohatgi, appearing for Chandra, had argued that the 86-year old is suffering from various ailments and both his children are behind the bars.
Noting that Chandra was embroiled in serious offences like duping and diverting home buyers’ money to the tune of over Rs 5,000 crore, the Delhi HC had earlier refused to further extend the interim medical bail granted to Chandra in a money laundering case.
