Delhi govt to relaunch scheme for free medical, civil services coaching

Delhi govt's scheme for free medical, civils coaching will be back soon, a ToI report said on October 27.

Kejriwal government is set to relaunch the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana, the report said. The scheme aims to offer free coaching to aspiring students in the fields of medical, engineering, and civil services.

Raaj Kumar Anand, Delhi's Minister for SC and ST welfare, announced that the revamped scheme, pending Cabinet approval, will include additional competitive exams for eligible students to receive free coaching.


Initially launched in 2018, the Yojana catered to Delhi-based SC, ST, OBC, and EWS category students, providing preparation assistance for professional course entrance exams and competitive job exams. The scheme included a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 to aid students with commuting and study materials.

Despite an interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program resumed in November 2021, with around 13,000 students registering for free coaching. However, classes were halted when the government faced difficulties in making timely payments to institutes.

The redesigned scheme incorporates changes to streamline payment systems for coaching institutes, implementing a biannual payment schedule based on student class verification. A monitoring system has been devised, and students will receive stipends quarterly.

The government plans to include more competitive exams and introduce incentives for students clearing each tier. Registration for coaching institutes and students will commence after the scheme's notification, prioritizing reputed institutions to ensure quality training for students from marginalized backgrounds.
