Delhi plans first-aid facilities in 1,086 government schools at Rs 48.87 crore annually
The Delhi government is proposing to set up first-aid facilities across all 1,086 government schools in the city. This initiative aims to provide immediate medical attention to students during school hours. Each school will have a trained health w...

Education Minister Ashish Sood said the facilities would help students who suffer minor injuries, feel dizzy or fall ill during school hours. Each school would have a trained health worker, either an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) or a multipurpose health worker, to attend to such cases.
The rooms would have provisions for first aid, wound dressing and oral rehydration solution (ORS). Students feeling unwell would also have a place to rest. Special attention would be given to the needs of girl students, with arrangements for privacy and menstrual health support.
The facilities, however, would be limited to basic medical assistance. Diagnostic tests and prescription medicines would not be available.
The government plans to introduce the facilities in phases. Schools that already have a separate room available would be covered first, while those requiring additional space or porta cabins would be taken up later.
Sood said the initiative was intended to make government schools safer and ensure that students get medical attention when they need it.
Earlier in the day, the minister attended the ‘Saksham Indraprastha (Prosperity, Capacity Building and Research Council) and Equal Opportunity Cell’ programme at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Delhi University.
In a post on X, Sood stressed the need to promote research, capacity building and equal opportunities to build a more inclusive and progressive society.
He said such initiatives could help people develop their abilities while opening up new avenues for growth.
