Delhi Shahdara Fire Today: Fire breaks out in four-storey building in Shahdara
At least nine people, including a toddler, died after a fire broke out in a residential building in east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar early Sunday. Officials said the incident occurred around 3.48 am in a four-storey building in Vivek Vihar Phase-I. Emergency teams reached the spot soon after the alert.

Police said the fire spread across flats on the second, third and fourth floors, leading to a rescue operation. The cause of the fire is yet to be known, and an investigation is underway.

A senior police officer said, "Around 10 to 15 people were rescued from the premises during the firefighting operation. Two of them, who sustained minor injuries, were shifted to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital."


Fire services deployed 12 fire tenders to control the blaze, while teams from the Delhi Disaster Management Authority, traffic police and local police assisted in rescue and evacuation. Officials said it took several hours to bring the fire under control. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed condolences over the loss of lives and said assistance is being provided to the affected.

Sandhu said, "Deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Vivek Vihar Phase-I. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones in this devastating tragedy."

"I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured and strength for the bereaved families during this difficult time," he said.

He said authorities have been directed to ensure medical assistance for the injured and provide relief to those affected. He added that Delhi Fire Service personnel and emergency teams are working at the site.

Chief Minister Gupta said the situation is being monitored and described the incident as extremely tragic. She said the injured are being treated in a nearby hospital and extended condolences to the families of the victims.

She said the local administration, Delhi Disaster Management Authority, Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Police are carrying out rescue and relief measures. Gupta said the government stands with the affected families.
