Weather Observations and Impact
According to the IMD, the Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's main weather station, recorded 154 mm of rainfall from yesterday till this morning. The temperature dropped to 35.4 degrees Celsius on Thursday following the rain, a much-needed relief after the city recorded nine heatwave days in June, compared to none in the same period in 2023 and 2022.
News agency ANI shared images on X showing inundated roads and long traffic jams in several parts of Delhi, highlighting the impact of the heavy rains on daily commutes.
Monsoon Arrive in Delhi
The IMD has announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Delhi within the next two to three days. "Conditions are likely to become favorable for the advance of the southwest monsoon in the capital during the next two to three days," the IMD stated.
Rainfall Predictions for Other Regions
The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall spells across several states, including Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Gujarat, Vidarbha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka today.
Residents in these regions are advised to stay updated with weather reports and plan their activities accordingly to avoid any disruptions caused by the expected rainfall.
