Delhi continues to gasp as air quality remains 'severe' for 3rd straight day this week; AQI at 504

Delhi continued to gasp for the third consecutive day as air quality remained in the 'severe' category on Saturday morning, according to SAFAR-India.

SAFAR-India reported that the overall air quality index (AQI) for the national capital was 504, classifying it as 'severe.' At the Indira Gandhi International Airport (T3), the AQI registered at 571.

Dhirpur in Delhi recorded an AQI of 542 on Saturday. A similar situation was observed in Noida, where the AQI plunged into the 'severe' category at 576. In Noida Sector-116, the AQI stood at 426, and in Noida Sector 62, it was 428, as per data from the Central Pollution Control Board.


Gurugram also recorded a 'severe' air quality with an AQI of 512.

In October, Delhi had the highest levels of PM2.5 (Particulate Matter 2.5) in the country, and the trend has been consistently upward since 2021, according to the Respirer Report.

Amid the 'severe' Air Quality Index (AQI) levels in various parts of Delhi-NCR, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a request to the Chief Secretaries of the affected states on Friday. They were instructed to promptly implement remedial measures and provide a report on actions taken to the Tribunal.

The NGT emphasized the urgent need for addressing and controlling air pollution in these cities to ensure improved air quality for the residents. The statement further indicated, "In response to the deteriorating AQI in the cities, Chief Secretaries of the respective states are urged to take immediate corrective actions and submit a report on the steps taken to the Tribunal."
