Delhi borewell rescue ends in death; Body pulled out after 12-hour ops

In a tragic turn of events, the lifeless body of an unidentified man, who had fallen into a 40-foot-deep borewell at a Delhi Jal Board water treatment plant, was successfully retrieved after a nearly 12-hour-long rescue operation on Sunday. Water Minister Atishi conveyed the sad news, expressing her condolences.

The victim, approximately 30 years old, is yet to be identified.

In a post on X, Atishi shared the disheartening update, stating, "It is with great sadness that I share the news that the man who fell into the borewell has been found dead by the rescue team."


According to the initial information, the deceased was a male aged around 30 years. Atishi emphasised that the circumstances leading to the incident, such as how the individual entered the borewell room and subsequently fell inside, will be thoroughly investigated by the police.


Expressing gratitude, Atishi acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, which tirelessly worked through the rescue operation for many hours.

The distressing incident unfolded around 1 am when authorities received information that an individual had fallen into the borewell at the Delhi Jal Board plant in Keshopur Mandi area, located in west Delhi. The subsequent rescue efforts were led by teams from the NDRF and the Delhi Fire Services (DFS).
