Delhi Airport faced major disruptions on Saturday due to dense fog, leading to 19 flight diversions, over 400 delays, and several cancellations. The low visibility conditions affected operations for the second consecutive day.

An official reported that between 12.15 am and 1.30 am, 19 flights were diverted due to reduced visibility. Of these, 13 were domestic, four were international, and two were non-scheduled flights.

Additionally, more than 45 flights were cancelled because of the weather conditions at Delhi and the destination airports. According to flight tracking website Flightradar24.com, over 400 flights were delayed at the airport.

India's largest airline, IndiGo, temporarily halted arrivals and departures at the airport early in the morning.

"While landing and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted," Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) posted on X at 6.56 am.

CAT III refers to a facility that allows aircraft to operate in low-visibility conditions.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), which is operated by DIAL, handles around 1,300 flight movements daily.

"#6ETravelAdvisory: Departures and arrivals at #DelhiAirport are currently on hold due to reduced visibility," IndiGo posted on X at 1.05 am on Saturday.

Air India also updated passengers on X at 1.16 am, stating that poor visibility caused by dense fog was affecting flight operations in Delhi and parts of northern India.

On Friday, a thick blanket of fog caused similar disruptions, delaying over 400 flights.

IndiGo provided an update on X at 10.58 am, confirming that dense fog continued to impact visibility in Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar, Srinagar, Guwahati, and Patna, even during the day.

"We assure you that our teams are working diligently to assist all impacted customers, ensuring your journey resumes as soon as the weather improves," IndiGo posted again at 11 am.
