Delhi: 18-year-old dies after AC unit falls on him from second floor while another teen in critical condition

In a tragic accident near Karol Bagh, New Delhi, an air conditioning unit fell from the second floor of a building and struck two teenagers on the ground. One of the victims, an 18-year-old, was killed, while the other remains in critical condition.

The police responded to a PCR call and have initiated an investigation. An FIR has been filed under charges related to causing death by negligence, and experts are currently inspecting the site.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the outdoor unit of an air conditioning system, mounted on a flat on the second floor, became dislodged and fell on the teenagers. Both victims were swiftly taken to a nearby medical center for treatment.


After the trajic incident, police have found the CCTV footage that captured the incident. As per ToI's report, Jitesh was seen sitting on a scooty and talking to another victim. The moment Pranshu gave a hug to Jitesh, the AC unit fell on them, leaving Jitesh lifeless.

An FIR was lodged under sections 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, police official said. “The forensic team has examined the scene and further investigation is in progress,” the officer added.

The incident led to a furore in the apartment with people calling in mechanics to check their AC units. Experts said the mounted AC units should be periodically checked and proper precautions should be taken to prevent such mishaps.
