What started as a robbery in Delhi’s Paschim Vihar in 2016 later on made him the most wanted in Delhi when he murdered two innocent people last year as a result of mistaken identity. What shook the police and the administrator the most was the murder of builder and hotelier Amit Gupta, which resulted from his refusal to the Rs 1 crore being extorted by the builder. As per the police claims, gangsters such as Goldy Brar helped him escape after he and his associates allegedly killed Amit Gupta.
Officers from the Crime Branch said he was inspired by Jitender Mann Gogi and had committed robbery in Delhi on the gang’s instructions in July 2016. A month later, he helped Gogi escape from police custody. He was arrested within a few days and released on bail later. Police call him the operational command of the Gogi gang. He allegedly has ties with Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
“He was always in touch with his associates. Sometimes, he stayed in Maharashtra and other times he was hiding in Himachal Pradesh or Uttar Pradesh. He became famous in 2021 when he helped gangster Kuldeep Mann alias Fajja in escaping. The men had planned the escape for months. They threw chilli powder at the police and managed to take Fajja,” claimed an officer.
According to the police, Deepak was known for “using chilli powder to distract police and then fire at them”. He has a strong built and still likes to be called 'Boxer, ' police said.
Escape Route
Deepak made pitstops at Dubai, Almaty, Turkey, Paramaribo, Panama City, El Salvador and Costa Rica before reaching Cancun in Mexico
"His intention in reaching Mexico was to eventually enter America with the help of human traffickers where he would join his other associated and then continue to run the activities of his organised crime in Delhi and neighbouring states from that country," said HGS Dhaliwal, special commissioner of police.
The human trafficking network who helped him escape also tipped the cops about Boxer's plan. He had paid them Rs 50 lakh for it. When his location was ascertained, the information was shared with the Mexican and the FBI officials.
Deepak soon left Mexico with a police team and a second team led by ACP Hriday Bhushan was dispatched to Turkey to assist the first team because Boxer was capable of escaping. Finally, the teams boarded the flight from Istanbul with the most wanted gangster in their custody.
Hailing from a small village near Sonipat, Deepak joined the boxing clubs in 2008 and soon started participating in state-level championships. Later on, he was recruited by the Sports Authority of India as a trainee boxer in 2009-10. He became a junior national champion in 57 kg category at an age of 15-16.
He won a gold medal at junior level but left boxing soon after because he lost a game. During the same time, he had petty fights with his fellow boxers and his fortune fizzled out. It was around this time, Deepak met Mohit and later the duo is alleged to have helped in the release of Gogi.
