Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Wednesday announced a 2 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and teachers, providing a salary boost to lakhs of beneficiaries across the state. The government has hiked the DA from 58% to 60%.

"The dearness allowance currently at 58 percent for government officials and teachers will be increased to 60 percent from 01.01.2026, announced Honorable Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru. S. Joseph Vijay," said Tamil Nadu's Department of Information and Public Relations.

"Approximately 16 lakh Government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners will benefit from this increase. This will result in an additional annual expenditure of Rs 1,230 crore for the Government. The Government will allocate the necessary additional funds for the welfare of Government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners," said the government.
