The Centre has extended until November 20 the deadline for the Commission of Inquiry probing the over three-year-long ethnic violence in Manipur
Guwahati: The Centre has extended until November 20 the deadline for the Commission of Inquiry probing the over three-year-long ethnic violence in Manipur that has left more than 260 people dead, a government statement said.

The three-member panel, now headed by former Supreme Court judge Balbir Singh Chauhan, was formed on June 4, 2023, in the aftermath of the ethnic violence that broke out in the northeastern state in the previous month.

According to the notification published in the gazette on Thursday, the commission shall submit its report to the Centre "as soon as possible but not later than the 20th of November, 2026". The panel is probing the sequence of events and facts relating to the ethnic violence that broke out in the state on May 3.
