Cyrus Mistry car crash: Anand Mahindra resolves to wear seat belt even in rear seat

Mahindra and Mahindra group chairman Anand Mahindra on Monday took to Twitter and said "we all owe our families," while re-sharing the news of Cyrus Mistry's death investigation.

His tweet focused on reports that Cyrus Mistry was in the backseat and not wearing his seat belt at the time.

"I resolve to always wear my seat belt even when in the rear seat of the car. And I urge all of you to take that pledge too. We all owe it to our families," wrote Mahindra.



Former chairman of Tata Group Cyrus Mistry died in a car accident on Sunday afternoon when the Mercedes vehicle in which he was travelling met with a fatal accident at Palghar. District and police officials said that they are prima facie treating the case as an accident but would investigate what caused the accident.

Mistry was travelling with three other people, Darius Pandole, his wife Anahita and Darius’s brother Jehangir. Pandole was an independent director of Tata group of companies. He had opposed a resolution moved by promoter Tata Sons seeking removal of Mistry as the company’s chairman. Anahita is a leading gynaecologist at Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital.

According to the police, the Pandoles were returning from the Udvada Parsi fire temple in Valsad in Gujarat and Mistry decided to join the Pandoles while returning to Mumbai. The vehicle which belongs to the Pandoles was being driven by Anahita. The accident took place at around 3.15 pm.

“Prima facie we are treating it as an accident, though we would investigate the cause of the accident,” police officials said.
