Some places in Kerala have been seeing heavy rains over the past few days
A cyclonic circulation is currently situated over north Kerala in the lower and middle tropospheric levels, with another circulation present over the north Coastal Andhra Pradesh neighborhood in the lower tropospheric levels, according to India Metrological Department. . These circulations are influencing weather patterns across several states. Due to these cyclonic circulations, the following weather patterns are expected over the next five days, according to IMD:

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka will experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).

Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, and Rayalaseema will see isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).

Red alert for Kerala

Kerala & Mahe expected to receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls (more than 204.5 mm) from May 20th to 22nd, and heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) on May 23rd, according to IMD

Orange alert for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karnataka

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal expected to see isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) is expected from May 21st to 23rd. South Interior Karnataka and Coastal Karnataka: These regions are likely to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.5 mm) on May 21st.

Monsoon Update

The IMD said that conditions are favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. Over the next two days, the monsoon is expected to advance over some parts of the Southeast Arabian Sea, additional areas of the Maldives, the Comorin area, the South Bay of Bengal, and further parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall over the next seven days. Isolated heavy rainfall is anticipated from May 21st to 25th, with very heavy falls expected on the Andaman Islands today. Earlier IMD had forecast monsoon to hit Kerala towards monthend.
