Cyclone Jawad: Piyush Goyal reviews preparations by state govts

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on Saturday reviewed the arrangements made by Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal to tackle the impact of cyclone Jawad.

In a video conference with state chief secretaries, Goyal took stock of the preparations made by the respective state governments.

Industry associations such as CII, Ficci, Assocham and PHD Chambers also attended the meeting.


"He also reviewed the suggestions for successful mitigation made by ministries, states, industry bodies and other organisations and appreciated the concerted efforts being made to mitigate the cyclone," the ministry said in a statement.

Goyal called for the banking and insurance sectors to be prepared to tackle the effects of the cyclone.

He said there was a need to draw up a comprehensive action plan to manage this natural disaster in the most effective way by incorporating inputs and suggestions of all stakeholders, and that public-private partnership was necessary for disaster management and mitigation and to protect the lives and livelihoods of those affected.
