Cyclone Fengal: These ten Tamil Nadu villages at high flood risk as Veedur Dam overflows
Cyclone Fengal has hit near Puducherry late Saturday night, resulting in heavy rains and strong winds in North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The storm caused significant rainfall, leading to overflowing dams and the risk of flooding in nearby village...

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone crossed the coasts between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM IST, with wind speeds reaching 70-80 km/h, gusting up to 90 km/h.
The storm caused significant rainfall, leading to rising water levels in local dams. In Tamil Nadu, the Veedur Dam in Villupuram district overflowed, putting 10 nearby villages at risk of flooding.
A video footage showed the dam spilling over, while authorities issued alerts for the affected areas.
As Cyclone Fengal continues to weaken, the IMD has forecasted it will gradually turn into a deep depression as it moves west-southwest.
In Chennai, the cyclone also caused high tides and rough sea conditions early in the morning, prompting the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) to issue warnings for "isolated heavy to very heavy" rainfall throughout Sunday.
The storm caused major disruptions at Chennai International Airport, too.
On Saturday, operations were halted due to strong winds and heavy rain, leading to numerous flight cancellations and delays that affected hundreds of passengers.
