The cyber economic & narcotics crimes (CEN) arm of the Bengaluru police has arrested a Rajasthan resident Shisharam Badiya for alleged content piracy following a complaint by Star India last year.

The Bengaluru police nabbed Badiya, who is a college student, from Rajasthan recently.

"We have arrested Shisharam Badiya from his native place Rajasthan for copyright violation based on a complaint by Star India," said Anoop Shetty, deputy commissioner of police, north east division, Bengaluru City adding that the interrogation with the accused is on.

Shisharam was allegedly involved in illegally streaming Star India and Disney+ Hotstar content through an app called Pikashow and monetising that content through ads.

A Bengaluru police team arrested him by tracing his mobile number.

In May 2022, Star India filed a complaint against the websites like 1tamilmv.bar, tamilblasters.top, tamilrockermovies.us, and its mirror/replica group websites as well as unauthorised application PikaShow for illegally exhibiting/streaming/hosting its content including the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The broadcaster has filed the complaint under the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology Act, and Copyright Act. The Cyber Police Bengaluru registered a first information report on May 25, 2022 under sections 420 of the IPC, 63 & 65 of the Copyright, and 66 of the IT Act.
