New Delhi: A team of Enforcement Directorate (ED) sleuths on Thursday carried out searches in southwest Delhi in connection with a cyber fraud-linked money laundering case involving PPPYL payments app. The team carrying out searches in Bijwasan area was attacked, allegedly by accused Ashok Sharma and his brother.

An enforcement officer was slightly injured in the attack but received first aid and continued his search duties, people aware of the development said. ED got a FIR registered with the Delhi Police about the incident under relevant charges, they said.

The search operations have been launched after the ED got inputs from the I4C and the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) about cybercrimes like phishing, QR code cheating and part-time job fraud, agency insiders said.

Collaborating with Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), ED analysed thousands of reported incidents. The agency has claimed that its probe revealed that illicit funds were funnelled into approximately 15,000 mule accounts. The scheme involved obtaining debit and credit cards to remit money to virtual accounts on UAE-based PPPYL payment aggregator. These funds were subsequently used to purchase cryptocurrency.
