The child, who suffered multiple life-threatening injuries, remains on ventilator support.
Police told the news outlet that the girl had been staying with the couple inside the CRPF campus without formal authorisation and was allegedly made to perform household work.
While the constable, identified as G D Tariq Anwar of the 235th Battalion, claimed the child was his wife Rimpa Khatun’s niece, TOI reported that investigators have found that she was being treated as a domestic help and had been subjected to repeated violence.
Pattern of abuse
The case came to light after a subedar major posted at the CRPF camp submitted a written complaint to the Ecotech-3 police station, leading to the registration of a case under Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with attempt to commit culpable homicide.TOI reported citing investigators that the girl was allegedly assaulted brutally on the intervening night of January 14 and 15.
Instead of taking her to a CRPF medical facility, Anwar admitted her to a private hospital, telling doctors that she had slipped and fallen in a bathroom.
Medical findings, however, painted a very different picture.
Doctors reported multiple old and fresh injuries, including fractured ribs, deep wounds to the head and chest, and signs of prolonged starvation. According to the report, her haemoglobin level was found to be alarmingly low at 1.9. She also had visible swelling in her legs, dark circles under her eyes and was unconscious when brought in.
Suspecting sustained abuse, the hospital prepared a medico-legal report and alerted authorities. As her condition worsened, the child was shifted to another facility for advanced care.
In a statement, a hospital spokesperson said,”She was diagnosed with polytrauma and shock. Suspecting possible abuse, the hospital immediately informed the police, requesting a thorough investigation into the matter. The child is currently receiving treatment in the hospital's paediatric intensive care unit (PICU)."
Arrests, suspension & CRPF response
According to TOI, senior CRPF officials have placed the constable under suspension and ordered a departmental inquiry. In an official statement, a CRPF spokesperson said,”Constable (GD) Tariq Anwar is posted in 235 Bn, Noida since January 2024 and working in CRPF Noida hospital as a first aider. He is residing in CRPF Noida camp with his family and had a young girl, reported to be his wife’s relative, staying with the family. On receipt of information from Noida Police about the girl being admitted in Sarvodaya hospital, senior officers along with a team was sent to ascertain the facts."
“Considering the gravity of the incident the said constable was placed under suspension and enquiry has been initiated as per procedure. On receipt of the preliminary medical report from hospital, a formal complaint has been lodged by the unit at PS Ecotech on 17.01.2026… CRPF will give every assistance to the police for the investigation and support the medical treatment to the young girl fully,” he spokesperson added.
Police said the child’s medical examination has been completed and further investigation is underway. Child welfare authorities have been informed, and officials indicated that additional charges could be invoked based on the findings, the report noted.
