Guwahati: A CRPF constable sustained injury in fresh firing in Senapati and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district when media persons tried to record footage of houses which were burnt and damaged early Monday morning.

A police official said the first incident of houses being burnt was reported at 2.40 am at Taphou Kuki. Other incidents were reported after 4 am around Mareimei, where houses belonging to Naga residents were burnt down. The house belonging to a resident of Lai village and another one belonging to a resident of Phuba village were also burnt.

"The constable is undergoing treatment at the district hospital, Senapati. The firing took place from multiple sides," the official said.

Protestors blocked NH-2, the Imphal-Dimapur highway. The Taphou Kuki Village Authority, in a statement on Monday, condemned the burning and destruction of a residential house belonging to a Taphou Kuki villager, describing the incident as "deplorable, inhuman and unacceptable".
