Family members tried to save the boy but tragically the child succumbed to the crocodile's attack. Hearing the news, locals assembled near the river and lured the crocodile into the net to trap the crocodile. The mob then pulled it out of the water and attacked the crocodile with sticks and rods.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The video shows the huge crocodile being pulled out of the water by a group of men, who then went on to beat the reptile with sticks and rods.
After receiving the information, a team of forest department officials reached the spot and launched an investigation.
They said that the reason for the crocodile's death is being investigated and that further action will be taken accordingly.
"Forest officials have reached the spot and an investigation is being done. Action will be taken against the violators for violating the Wildlife Protection Act," she said.
Further investigation is underway in the case, she added. The authorities have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken against those involved in killing the crocodile.
The crocodile was reportedly trapped near the ghat due to low water levels of the river.
Meanwhile, as per media reports, the child killed in the reptile attack has been identified as Ankit Kumar, son of Dharmendra Das from Gokulpur village.
