National Covid Crisis: Uttarakhand government suspends Char Dham Yatra
The Uttarakhand government on Thursday suspended till further orders the Chardham Yatra to the state's Himalayan shrines, in view of the massive surge in Covid-19 cases.

The portals of all the four temples will be opened as scheduled for priests to perform regular prayers, but devotees, either from the state or outside, will not be allowed to go there.

“The state government has decided to suspend the Chardham Yatra till further orders in view of the growing number of Covid cases. Priests will continue to conduct puja and offer prayers at the temples,” Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat told reporters.

ET had earlier reported on the government’s moves and planning on the Chardham Yatra after the recent Kumbh Mela , especially since Covid-19 cases have been surging in Uttarakhand as in various other states.

All the four temples – Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri- are located in the Garhwal Himalayan range of Uttarakhand. Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are scheduled to open on May 18,17, 15 and 14 respectively.
