Covid resurgence: Maharashtra govt to ramp up testing in six districts

"Covid-19 positivity rate is increasing in six districts including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts. Therefore, we have taken a decision to increase testing in all these districts," said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

In view of rising Covid-19 cases across Maharashtra, the state government on Monday decided to ramp up coronavirus testing in six districts including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar.

"Covid-19 positivity rate is increasing in six districts including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts. Therefore, we have taken a decision to increase testing in all these districts," said Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

We appeal to people to wear masks and receive the vaccination, added Tope.


Maharashtra on Sunday reported 1,494 fresh COVID-19 cases, including 961 in Mumbai, and one fatality due to the infection, taking the tally of infections to 78,93,197 and the toll to 1,47,866, the state health department said. The state had recorded 1,357 new coronavirus infections and one pandemic-related death the day before.

Sunday was the fourth consecutive day when the state reported more than 1,000 cases.
