COVID-19: Uttar Pradesh government announces fresh curbs
Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced fresh set of measures in light of increasing cases of Covid-19, limiting occupancy in public places and extending night curfew timings, among others.

The state tested 1.66 lakh samples over 24 hours on Tuesday, out of which 992 were found to be Covid-19 positive- a positivety rate of 0.59%. It was a 73% jump from Monday's reported cases of 572. Active cases in the state currently stand at 3,173. Gautam Buddh Nagar has the highest number of active cases at 597, followed by Ghaziabad at 561.
It was directed that in districts that cross 1000 active cases, public places like restaurants, cinema theaters, etc will function with only 50% of their total capacity while swimming pools, gyms and water parks will be shut.
Schools across the state will be closed for classes up to class 10, from January 6 to 14.
For weddings and other functions taking place in closed spaces, not more than 100 people can assemble, while for functions taking place in open spaces, only 50% of a ground's total capacity would be permitted to be filled. Covid-19 helpdesks would be established at the entrances.
Night curfew hours will be extended from Thursday. Instead of 11 pm to 5 am, the curfew will remain in place from 10 pm to 6 am.
For the Magh Mela that will be held in Prayagraj, devotees will have to present a negative RT-PCR report done latest 48 hours before.
Private companies in the IT and ITES sectors were asked to encourage work from home.
