Tripura on Friday said that out of 151 RT-PCR samples sent for genome sequencing to West Bengal more than 90 samples were found to be Delta Plus variants.

Amid growing concerns over the rapid spread of the highly transmissible Delta plus variant of the coronavirus, Tripura has reimposed 24 hours weekend curfew across the state like total lockdown which would start from Saturday 12 pm to Monday 6 am in order to break the chain.

The Union Health Ministry, earlier this week, said that variants of concern of SARS-CoV2 have been found in 174 districts in 35 states and Union territories in the country. The highest numbers of these cases have been reported in Maharashtra, Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat, the ministry said.
