COVID-19 pandemic 'unprecedented', once in a century crisis, which India faced confidently: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the 42nd Convocation of Anna University, on Friday, described the COVID-19 pandemic as an "unprecedented" and once-in-a-century problem and stated that India faced it confidently due to its scientists and common people.

PM while talking about his government said that here was a "temperament" for reforms in the government, which is not restrictive but responsive.

He further listed out various reforms, including in the drones and geospatial and infrastructure sectors.


"The pandemic "tested" every country," PM Modi said.

"India faced the unknown confidently, thanks to its scientists, health care workers, professionals and common people. As a result, today every sector in India is bursting with new life, whether it is industry, innovation, investment or international trade" he added.

PM Modi highlighted that the country was at the forefront in every sector and has been converting obstacles into opportunities.

He then hailed the removal of retrospective tax and various sectoral reforms for aiding the country in various sectors.

In the event, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin praised the state's educational climate and remarked that it stood out for the high number of people pursuing higher education.

Participating in the ceremony were Minister of Higher Education for Tamil Nadu K Ponmudy, State Governor R N Ravi, and Union Minister of State L Murugan.

A number of students were awarded degrees and medals.
