Covid-19: BBMP requests government to appoint officers at each private hospital for managing beds

BBMP health authorities have been having a tough time as private hospitals have often refused to part with beds the BBMP has allotted to patients after its portals indicate them as vacant.

BBMP chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta has requested the State Government to appoint KAS or officers in equivalent rank as nodal officers at each private hospital in Bengaluru to sort out issues related to bed allocation to Covid-19 positive patients and enforce the government's bed allotment orders.

Chief Secretary P Ravi Kumar is likely to issue an order to this effect on Tuesday, naming officials for each private hospital.

Gupta, after visiting a few private hospitals on Sunday, has ordered notices to them for not setting aside half of their bed capacity for Covid patients.


BBMP health authorities have been having a tough time as private hospitals have often refused to part with beds the BBMP has allotted to patients after its portals indicate them as vacant.

The BBMP chief commissioner told ET that the officials designated will keep count of the vacancy position on a real-time basis so that available hospital beds are used optimally and lives saved. The officials posted at private hospitals will work under the BBMP chief commissioner.
