Covid-19: 5 lakh doses a day from next month, says Karnataka CM

The state government is making preparations to give five lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine a day from next month, chief minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Thursday.

The vaccine availability is improving, and the government administered five lakh doses on Wednesday, the chief minister said, speaking to the media in Delhi.

Earlier in the day, he met union health & family welfare minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and urged him to step up the supply of vaccine stock. He also briefed him about the steps the government has taken to rein in the spread of the infection.


The union minister, Bommai said, has agreed to step up the supply to five lakh doses a day as the government is planning to scale up vaccinations in September and October.

The health authorities were doing between 3 lakh and 3.5 lakh doses a day earlier which went up to about 4.5 lakh doses a day last week, the chief minister said. On Thursday, health workers administered about 4.12 lakh doses.

With the pace of vaccination picking up, Covid-19 positivity rate is also falling and hit 0.64% on Thursday, according to the government bulletin. So far, the health authorities have provided 3.8 crore doses of vaccination.
