Sher Singh, a former mortuary sweeper who was later fired, was arrested following the emergence of a month-old video that went viral on social media showing the couple in the mortuary while a corpse lay on a nearby stretcher. Singh, along with Parvendra, a cleaner who recorded the video, and Bhanu, a driver who was present, were arrested for their roles in the incident. The woman involved has not yet been identified.
Noida Chief Medical Officer Sunil Sharma stated that the incident revealed significant security lapses. A three-member committee, including Deputy CMOs Dr. Jaisalal and Dr. RP Singh, and forensic expert Dr. Rishabh Kumar Singh, has been tasked with investigating the incident. Jaisalal is responsible for the post-mortem house, according to the TOI report.
"What was the guard doing at that time? The mortuary also has on duty a supervisor, a doctor and a pharmacist on rotation. We will request the Noida administration to deploy more security guards at the post-mortem house. We also plan to install CCTV cameras there soon," said Sharma.
The CMO's statement noted that a complaint was filed at Sector 126 police station after the explicit video was circulated online.
After the video's recent circulation, the CMO filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a case under BNS Section 296 and IT Act sections 67 and 67A. Singh, Bhanu, and Parvendra were presented in court and are now in judicial custody. The police are also investigating whether more videos were recorded, noted TOI.
The incident has raised concerns about the security of autopsies conducted at the mortuary. Mohan, a local resident, emphasized the potential for body tampering if access is not strictly controlled, urging the government to address the issue urgently.
