Conditions becoming favourable for southwest monsoon onset over Kerala in 3-4 days: IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the Southwest Monsoon will reach Kerala in the next 3-4 days, bringing relief from the current heatwave in Northwest and Central India starting May 30. The monsoon is expected to advance into addi...

People can expect relief from the soaring temperatures as IMD has also predicted that the ongoing heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in Northwest and Central India are expected to gradually diminish starting from May 30.
The Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance into additional areas, including parts of the South Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin area, Lakshadweep, Kerala, and various parts of the Bay of Bengal and Northeastern states during the same period, said the Met department.
IMD has forecast “above normal” rain during the June-September monsoon, boosting the prospects of a bountiful agricultural harvest that will likely ease inflationary pressure and bolster growth.
This comes as a relief after uneven rain in 2023, mainly due to the El Nino effect, leading to patchy farm output that pushed up food prices and kept the central bank from cutting interest rates.
Rain in the country during the four month long monsoon season is expected to be 106% of the long period average (LPA) with a 4% margin of error, according to the weather office’s second forecast. The first forecast also predicted 106% rainfall for the season.
The IMD defines average or normal rainfall as ranging between 96% and 104% of a 50-year average of 87 cm for the season.
