Collegium recommends 3 CJs as judges of Supreme Court

The Supreme Court collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, on Monday recommended the elevation of three high court chief justices as judges of the Supreme Court.

The recommendations include Gujarat High Court chief justice Sunita Agarwal, Delhi High Court chief justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Telangana High Court chief justice Aparesh Kumar Singh. The recommendations were made at a meeting of the collegium held on Monday.

Justice Agarwal was appointed chief justice of Gujarat High Court in 2023. Justice Upadhyaya took over as chief justice of Delhi High Court in January 2025. Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh has been heading Telangana High Court since July 2025.


The recommendations will now be processed by the central government as part of the judicial appointment procedure. The latest recommendations come after the collegium in May recommended five persons for elevation to the Supreme Court, including four high court chief justices and senior advocate V Mohana.

The Supreme Court has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges.
