Coivd-19: Government says no case of Delta plus variant in Tripura

An official statement of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said that 152 samples were sent earlier from Tripura to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) at Kalyani in West Bengal for Whole Genome Sequence (WGS).

The central government on Sunday said that there is no case of highly infectious Delta plus variant of coronavirus found in Tripura.

An official statement of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry said that 152 samples were sent earlier from Tripura to National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) at Kalyani in West Bengal for Whole Genome Sequence (WGS).

“The results of the WGS revealed that three samples had tested positive for B.1.1.7, eleven samples had tested positive for B.1.617.1 (Kappa) and 138 samples had tested positive for B.1.617.2 (Delta).


"There was no case of Delta Plus reported among an aforementioned lot of sequenced samples,” the statement said.

Dr. Deep Debbarma, COVID nodal officer of Tripura told media persons on last Friday that about 151 samples were sent to a government laboratory in West Bengal. "As many as 138 of these samples have been found to contain the Delta plus variant.”

Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) Microbiology department head Tapan Mazumder said that it is a cause of concern that the Delta plus variants were found in all the eight districts of Tripura and the Delta (plain) and UK variants found in few districts.

Tripura has COVID caseload of 70,479 Covid and 65,871 recovered from the disease and 712 people succumbed to the disease.
